Breakthrough HEC‑RAS 2D modeling and 3D visualization

Apart from the standard features available in GeoHECRAS, the following features are available in GeoHECRAS 2D:
Draw 2D Mesh Faces
The Draw 2D Mesh Face command allows the user to draw a mesh patch (or mesh template) and direct the software to honor the drawn patch when generating the mesh. The user can draw element face lines and construct 3-sided and 4-sided mesh elements to make a mesh patch. The command gives the user the ability to control how the HEC-RAS 2D cells are created in areas where a high level of detail is required, such as when 2D cells need to be placed and aligned to satisfy culvert inlet and outlet locations.
2D Floodplain Encroachments
The 2D Floodplain Encroachment command automates the placement and analysis of floodplain encroachments along the river reach when performing a 2D steady or unsteady flow computation. This allows the modeler to have a better understanding of the true flow effects when attempting to determine the floodway in a complex flow situation. The modeler can examine the VxD (velocity x depth) factor, as this directly indicates greater flood hazard and hydraulic importance.
Adaptive 2D Mesh
In addition to HEC-RAS’ default rectangular (structured) 2D computational mesh, the software can create an adaptive 2D mesh to better represent more complicated 2D flow conditions and structures. The software will automatically refine the 2D mesh where required, such as at a roadway crossing bridge opening.
2D Ineffective Flow Areas
Ineffective flow areas can be assigned to the 2D mesh using polylines or polygons. Alternatively, draw ineffective flow areas on the Map View. For example, stagnant flow areas at roadway crossings can be stamped into the 2D mesh to account for the ineffective flow area. The software will automatically refine the 2D flow area to incorporate the ineffective flow area shape.
Auto Fix 2D Mesh Bad Elements
The Army Corps of Engineers HEC-RAS software generates 2D meshes that contain elements that are marked “bad” and require manually fixing by the user. GeoHECRAS will automatically detect and fix these bad elements without requiring any interaction by the user.
Animated Flood Maps
For unsteady flow models, the flood map can be animated to show how it changes with time. The animation speed can be adjusted, as well as set up to loop continuously. The final animation can be recorded to a video. In addition to animating the flood results, options are available to show the extent of the maximum and minimum flood areas.
Particle Tracking Maps
Plot moving particles on the flood map to represent the flow field for both 1D river reaches and 2D flow areas. The size and speed of the particle is adjusted to represent the velocity at that point. Particle tracking maps can be created for both steady flow and unsteady flow models.
